Our Vision

Providing patient-specific care, listening to individuals’ needs and adapting accordingly will be our modus operandi.

Activities at the center will be designed such that everyone can have some fun time. Every individual will have his/her own likes and dislikes. Utmost attention will be paid in honoring each person’s choice. For this reason, variety of activities will be designed.

Activities will be designed so that everyone can get optimum amount of physical and cognitive exercises. Recommendations from peer-reviewed publications will be followed All activities will be performed in the presence of trained personnel in a safe environment. Safety first policy will be adhered to during all activities.

Proposed Activities

Walking and Gardening

We plan to have a garden outside the daycare center. Interested individuals will be assisted in walking and taking care of plants in the garden.

Playtime and Puzzle Solving

Playing cards and board games like ludo for high to moderate cognitively functioning individuals will be arranged. Solving puzzles like pattern recognition, picture/symbol matching will be part of daily routine.

Exercise and Fitness

Getting adequate exercise is vitally important for individuals with Alzheimer’s disease. Individuals will be encouraged to participate in appropriate physical exercises under strict supervision of trained personnel.

Music and Singing

Music is considered to lift soul and mood in most, if not in all cultures. Music and music-therapy has benefits for the mind and helps in healthy aging (Click here). Listening to music and singing (solo or in chorus) will be encouraged.

Watching Sports and News on TV

If music lifts the soul then sports cultivates it. Interested individuals will be engaged not only in watching sports and current affairs on TV but also in discussing those with others.

Watching photos and naming famous people

Family photo albums will be shown on a regular basis and individuals will be encouraged to identify people in photos. Photos of famous people will also be shown and individuals will be encouraged to name those people in photos.

Flexibility and adaptability

While we have a vision about the operation of the planned daycare center, we understand the importance of being open to ideas and input from different centers. Feedback from patients and their near and dear ones will be given utmost importance.

Because of societal structure, such centers are more predominant in some other countries. We have visited some centers in the USA. Ms. Ruth Reid, who has been running Ru-Clare Adult Day Care Services for more than 26 years in the state of Ohio in the USA, has been very supportive of our venture and has extended her support and willingness to offer her advice, as needed.

Caregiver training

Caregivers will be required to receive periodic training and education for better communication with care recipients. Research has shown efficacy of using (i) close-ended and choice based questions, (ii) direct and easy to understand sentences, (iii) repetition of main ideas in conversation, (iv) direct eye contact and touch, and (v) comments and nonverbal cues (Click here) in improvement of care-giving.

Awareness campaign

The center will host seminars (both in-person and virtual) to spread awareness of Alzheimer’s disease. Awareness will be spread using social media also. Data and information for these seminars will be collected by members of the trust from India and USA.
